lobenstein, a town of germany, in the principality of reuss, on the lemnitz, situated in a pleasant and fertile country, 25 m. n.w. from hof by railway. pop. (1905) 2990. the town, grouped round a rock, upon which stand the ruins of the old castle, is exceedingly picturesque. it contains a spacious parish church, a palace, until 1824 the residence of the princes of reuss-lobenstein-elersdorf, and a hydropathic establishment. the manufactures include dyeing, brewing and cigar-making. see zedler and schott, _fuhrer durch lobenstein und umgebung_ (2nd ed., lobenstein, 1903).
