    "verified_text": "boone, a city and the county-seat of boone county, iowa, u.s.a., a short distance from the des moines river and near the centre of the state. pop. (1890) 6520; (1900) 8880; (1905, state census) 9500 (1334 foreign-born); (1910) 10,347. it is served by the chicago & north-western (which has construction and repair shops here), the chicago, milwaukee & st paul railways, and by the fort dodge, des moines & southern (inter-urban) railway, which connects with des moines, ames, &c. boone is an important coal centre; bricks and tiles are manufactured from the clay obtained near by; there is a packing plant for the manufacture of beef and pork products; and from the rich farming section by which the city is surrounded come large quantities of grain, some of which is milled here, and live-stock. boone was laid out in 1865, was incorporated as a town in 1866, and was chartered as a city in 1868.",
