(1890) 4351; (1900) 5046; (1905, state census) 5180 (625 foreign-born); (1910) 4560. it is served by the chicago, rock island & pacific railway, and by an inter-urban electric line connecting with elkhorn and kimballton, and is the trade centre of a fine agricultural country; among its manufactures are machine-shop products, canned corn, flour, umbrellas, drugs and bricks. the municipality owns the water-works and electric-lighting plant. atlantic was chartered as a city in 1869.",
